The Ghana Olympic Committee, GOC, will hold its elective congress to select new executives for a four-year term on April 26, 2025.
With less than a month to go, incumbent Mr. Ben Nunoo Mensah has announced his decision not to seek re-election for a third term. In a press release dated March 26, 2025, Mr. Nunoo Mensah, expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to serve but stated that he believes it is time to step aside and allow others to continue the progress of Ghanaian sports.
He is quoted as saying “while it would have been an honor to continue serving my nation and the sports community in this capacity, I have chosen to embrace a new path of service to humanity. As a result, I will not be contesting in the upcoming GOC elections”.
Mr. Nunoo Mensah first assumed the leadership of the Ghana Olympic Committee in March 2017, defeating incumbent Professor Francis Dodoo in a fiercely contested election. He won again against Lawyer Richard Akpokavi, on March 15, 2021.
With elective Congress set for April 26, 2025, Mr. Nunoo Mensah emphasized the need for new leadership to build on the foundation laid during his administration, urging the sports fraternity to continue working towards greater achievements.
